The Annual Student Careers Night held by the Australian Health Promotion Association (AHPA) and Public Health Association Australia (PHAA) provides students and early career health promotion professionals with an insight into the diverse career opportunities of the public health field, including government, not-for-profit, university and corporate health. The experiences of our keynote speaker and fellow health professional panellists will take us on their in health promotion and public health journey to tell us what they wish they knew when starting their career.

Jill Darby has a Masters of Public Health (MPH). She is coordinator of the Bachelor of Health Science degree at ECU with research focus including safe and inclusive environments; food security; Workplace wellness and smoke-free campuses; online employability tools. She has a range of Board positions with RAC and Road Safety Council and is a graduate of the Australian Company Directors.

Curtin University graduate Holly Scott worked in the NGO sector before packing up for a six-month contract with WA Country Health Service in Broome in 2010. More than 5 years on, she left her second home and family of Broome to fulfil a long-held dream of travelling in South and North America throughout 2016. Since returning to Perth, Holly joined the Health Promotion Team at East Metropolitan Health Service and is currently a Health Promotion Coordinator working in chronic disease prevention.

Katie Schubert is the Healthy Community Coordinator at Town of Victoria Park. Before coming to the Town, she worked at the City of Subiaco for two years. Katie has completed a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Mathematics from West Virginia Wesleyan College and a Master’s degree in Physical Activity from Eastern New Mexico University. Katie has completed the short course in health promotion from Curtin University. Katie has also previously played soccer for Perth Glory.

A country girl at heart, Darci grew up on a sheep and wheat farm in Beverley, Western Australia. She enjoys living a mentally and physically healthy lifestyle, getting out-and-about seeking the next adventure. Darci Act-Belong-Commit’s by cooking, volunteering, playing sports and traveling. Darci loves working at Act-Belong-Commit running the Youth Connectors program, as she is passionate about teaching young people how to be mentally healthy and how to encourage their peers to do the same.
